Two-Way radio coverage is strong in Miami, Broward, & West Palm!

Map-Current_5-5-2015_Cut_Frame
The radios and networks available would hugely surprise the majority of business in Miami, Broward, and West Palm Beach who think two-way radios are old technology. Two-way radios of today don’t stop working after a few miles, or sound like your talking in a wind tunnel. Today’s radios are well developed and supported by powerful wide area networks. One person holding a radio in the streets of downtown Miami can communicate with a moving vehicle traveling north in West Palm Beach.

The power behind this comes from a large network of repeater towers spanning from the Florida Keys all the way up to Jacksonville. A majority of these towers can be found in West Palm, Broward, and Miami. These towers are linked to each other for the purpose of sending radio signal at any time. Unlike cellphones, radio is instant, there is no connecting, and there is no dialing. With Highland Wireless’s Connect Plus and Nexedge systems, An entire team or fleet can be connected at all times instantly!

Who needs the coverage?

Highland Wireless’s Radio coverage may not benefit some operations that are based in a single location but the teams and fleets that work all around South Florida find huge benefit in wide area radio coverage! For example, tow truck, taxi, and transportation companies will spare no expense to have the best communication tool in their vehicles. Highland Wireless works around the clock to keep our network up and running to service companies that provide critical services around the clock and rely on instant communication in the moment.

co-workers talking at construction site with bulldozer behind themInstead of buying an entire collection of radios for one event, did you know you could rent two-way radios for a fraction of the cost? Many businesses and individuals choose to rent two-way radios instead of buying for a number of reasons. For instance, if you only need radios for a particular event or a certain period of time it is far more cost effective to rent radios as opposed to buying.

How many radios do you need? If you have an entire team of people on the job you may need a large number of systems. This can really start to add up cost wise, especially if you want high quality radios with GPS, Bluetooth or water resistant technologies. Your world of high tech radio options is endless, but that doesn’t mean you have an unlimited amount of money to spend. Radio rentals allow you to afford any quality radio you’d like without spending a large amount of money.

iDrive Fleet Surveillance Cameras

idrive fleet security cameraIf you are looking to increase safety, security and efficiency of all vehicles in your fleet you need the latest iDrive Fleet Surveillance Camera. There are so many different applications for the iDrive, including tow trucks, taxicabs, and any other form of transportation. No matter what industry you’re in, the iDrive Fleet Surveillance camera offers a world of new ways to safeguard your precious commodities and assets from otherwise unseen threats. In fact, it is considered one of the most technologically advanced ways you can protect your vehicles and other commercial property.

Allow us to answer some of the most commonly asked questions about the iDrive Fleet Surveillance Cameras.

What Does The Fleet Surveillance Camera Offer?

First and foremost, these nifty compact cameras do a lot more than offer video recording in real-time. Each iDrive camera is packed with GPS, video storage over wireless network, and smart incident detection. This camera will keep your valuables safe and your employees safe too, say for instance they are in an un-witnessed traffic accident and need proof of who or what hit them. This also grants employers the unique opportunity to see how individual members of the team react when presented with unfortunate circumstances. This offers valuable control over safeguarding your business from outsiders as well as unsafe employee practices.

Who Is The Best Candidate For This Camera?

Anyone with a fleet of vehicles is going to benefit from the iDrive camera system. Your vehicles are valuable and so are the things you transport, from monetary goods to your hardworking employees. Taxicabs, semi trucks, any sort of vehicle can be easily outfitted for heightened security with one of these high-tech recording devices.

Is The iDrive Recording All Of The Time?

This camera is built to efficiently record events at the most crucial moments. Upon sensing an emergency the camera begins storing data recorded 15 seconds before and after an accident. This works because the camera is constantly recording but instead of saving everything, and making it rather difficult for you to identify the actual incident, the camera is programed to only save 15 seconds prior to and 15 seconds after an accident.

As a result, managers can easily locate the important footage they need without having to go through hours of unimportant footage. Plus, this allows the footage to use up very small amounts of hard drive space. All videos are stored in the same easy to locate place. It is equally convenient to extract these videos to another platform for further use or investigation.

Does The Camera Have Wi-Fi?

The iDrive does operate on Wi-Fi when it is available. When in an area with Wi-Fi the camera will automatically record and upload the data in real time to the central home database. This means anyone at ‘home plate’ can see what is going on in real-time out on the road or in the parking garage.

Will This Camera Save Me Money?

Every investment your business makes needs to be beneficial and literally pay for itself over time, otherwise it’s not a valuable use of company assets. The iDrive fleet surveillance system pays for itself time and time again. Companies that have already installed the technology on their vehicles have experienced a great deal of cost savings in regards to insurance premiums and claims.

Since iDrive cameras are built to last a long time they won’t just save you money and hassles this year, but for many more years to come.

If you want to protect your fleet of vehicles there is no better way to do so than with the iDrive camera. Contact Highland Wireless today to set up an appointment with one of our specialists to learn more about this high-tech form of affordable security.

Analog Vs. Digital Two-Way Radios

several 2 way radios

Analog radio is the traditional type of radio, and digital radio is the newest radio technology, each is uniquely different. Analog two-way radios were originally introduced around 1933 to the world of business, but at this point had already been in use by the U.S. military for 20 years. Originally, the use of analog radio was limited to a small population, but it has since ballooned into a much more popular form of communication. Radios offer such a reliable form of communication that commercial, military, industrial and individuals employ them on a daily basis. As a result, we have needed to come up with new ways to keep radio waves open to all.

Analog has been around for a long time, during which time innovation has reached its peak with this form of technology. When there was nothing left to add to analog, digital radio systems were invented in order to allow for the feature-rich options today’s advancing society demands.

Signal types vary between analog and digital radios but these two types of radios also have many other differences, such as sound quality and price points. Thanks to the invention of digital radio, wireless communication has been able to grow and expand. Improvements of digital radio includes:

  • A much greater calling range
  • Better voice quality
  • Increase in reliable coverage
  • Advanced software availability

These are just some of the advantages to digital platforms. Analog radio has its own beneficial qualities as well. Analog radio has been the primary form of wireless communication via two-way radios since the origin of its development. Even to this day the majority of radio systems still operate on analog mode. As the world of digital technology grows, more and more professionals are switching from analog to digital.

Traditional analog two-way radios typically come with standard options, such as push-to-talk, scanning, limited encryption options and simple one-on-one or group conversations. There are many additional tasks analog radios are capable of performing thanks to innovative individuals throughout history.

Even the original cell phones operated via analog. As more and more people began using cell phones the platform was switched to digital.

Digital radios vary in what they have to offer, some offer the exact same as analog radios, and others come with additional features. Depending on manufacturer and the type of radio you purchase or rent, the included features will vary greatly. All digital radios pretty much guarantee 30-50% increased battery life over analog radios. This is because the digital radio transmitter does not run 24/7.

A standard analog radio is going to decrease in signal the closer you get towards its maximum range, at which point all you hear is white noise. On the other hand, a digital radio is going to remain much more consistent in sound quality regardless of distance to or from the maximum range.

Today’s analog radios use frequency modulation (FM), which creates a constant wave with the voice signal. This is a rather simple system to install, which makes analog radios more affordable. Despite the lower price point, popularity of analog radios remains on the decline.

The numbers 1 or 0 represents digital signals. Depending on the number the voltage values differ. The digital signal includes an algorithm that can identify talking vs. background noise; this means communication is much clearer. A wireless digital signal is considered equally reliable to a wired digital signal.

Advantages of Analog Radio

  • There are a lot of accessories and add-ons available due to the extent of time analog radios have been around.
  • Analog systems are easy to use and generally well understood by the public.
  • These systems make productive use of bandwidth.

Disadvantages of Analog Radio

  • In most cases you can only have one two-way conversation going on at any given time using the same channel.
  • Receivers and transmitters are made to fit particular transmissions. The devices can be upgraded but the technology can’t be.
  • Software for business applications is not available for analog.

Advantages of Digital Radios

  • More conversations can take place on one channel.
  • Unit ID, enhanced text messages and status buttons can all be embedded into a digital radio channel.
  • Your bandwidth consumption is reduced with digital radios.
  • Both existing infrastructure and antenna systems can be used for transmitting digital signals.
  • Background noise greatly reduced due to advanced algorithms that can detect the difference between talking and background noise.
  • Many new software applications are available all of the time.
  • Digital platforms enable you to use both digital and analog radios simultaneously.

Disadvantages of Digital Radios

  • Takes more time for first-time users to learn how to use.
  • Digital signals will not tolerate RF (radio frequency) signals, and as a result if there is ever too much RF noise the signal can completely drop in error.
  • Due to the fact it is newer and more technologically advanced it is also more expensive. (Reference)
